It started with the early Greek and Roman dances; which I was introduced to at a dance academy (I was fourteen at that time). I did not know their history and the origin of the Greek and Roman dances was unknown to me at the time. I still do not. There is very little information about them in the public domains, but you still can find them in private archives. They were mainly used for entertaining and they were also used by soldiers in the army.

It is a dance of two dancers, the dancers of two different groups. If they are not in a different group but dancing with a friend then the dance is known as an informal social dance. We have the dances of two groups called the public dancer, and the private dancer, and the dance of one group called the private dancer and the dance of the other group called the social dance.
The dance of the public and the dance of the private dancers were used by all classes, both rich and poor, although the public dancers were less popular and the private dancer most popular than the public. But the private dance still remains a living thing. It is now used for dancing among the working class. It is in every kind of dance. The popular dances are usually of two groups, an official one, called the dance club, and a privately held dance, which consists exclusively of students.
The dance club is in this respect the most ancient and the oldest. Its origin is recorded in the Greek and the Roman classics, and I know that some of the public dances in Greece were danced by the students of the dancing lessons, and some of them are now popular dances.
Do you remember the dance of the public?
I do not. I think it became associated with the public at a specific time, at certain places in Athens, such as the Syntagma Square. It is still used today in a large number of public places.
Who danced the public and who danced the private?
It is difficult to say. I can only speak of students. I saw that people do not always know who they are dancing with. All I can say is that the social dance of the public, which is the dance of a group of one or two people, is not the one which I dance, and the private dance (the dancing in the club) which is the dancing in the private apartment of one or two
