Rappers are the best dancers on the planet, and all of the ones we’ve listed are pretty good (especially Big Boi and Kanye West).
But the top 10 doesn’t really tell the whole story; who has the most beautiful face? Which dancers are most likely to have the most kids? These are only some questions we’ll get to in the coming weeks, hopefully!

Derek Smart knows something that people of color in America don’t often: When you’re on the receiving end of racism, that prejudice doesn’t vanish overnight. It creeps into your thinking, your feelings, and your everyday interactions, which is why it’s so important to understand the nuances of what’s meant when you say words like “nigga.” And when he’s not talking politics, he’s talking about his son, who is gay.
“When you’re talking about this issue with him in these terms,” Smart tells The Cut, “it doesn’t go away, because what you’re saying is this is who he is.”
Smart is a member of the Coalition of African Americans for Human Rights, which is organizing to repeal a Texas law that allows discrimination based on sexual orientation. Texas state legislators voted overwhelmingly along party lines to repeal the law in March, but that hasn’t stopped opponents from rallying behind a campaign to make sure the law isn’t repealed in the final days of this legislative session—and if they don’t get their way, it will take their votes back and they’ll be back in jail.
So how can you understand what Derek says, even when you know this person can’t speak for you, because you’ve been called that word before?
It’s easy to say, say it louder or say it without thinking. It doesn’t help if, when you’re asked “what does [nigger] mean?” or “can [nigger] make you happy?” or “what do [niggers] mean to you?” you have no clue what they’re trying to say, because, as with the rest of the phrases and words you’re being asked to use, you don’t really know what’s being said.
It’s important to be aware of what you’re saying and how it might offend others—it’s just saying that word out loud and out loud in front of a group of people, even in their earbud, which you don’t need to think about.
