We’ve been using an old Canon 8-15mm for a while now, it has a lot of good range, and very good resolution. There’s no need for a wide angle lens if you have good enough camera equipment such as high end cameras, a fast telephoto lens (as long as it has a tripod), or a wide angle lens which can get close.
What if the product has multiple lens options?
Here’s the question. For example, here’s a Nikon D750 that was purchased a few months ago. It is a very good budget camera, so a 16-35mm f/2 on the 24-70mm has been a great choice. What do I look for?
Is the product in good working order?
As mentioned above there’s really no need for a wide angle for macro photography. In fact a wider angle will make macro more difficult. If it’s just some old camera parts and can’t be refinished properly the wide angle will make it look like it has been repaired. Plus the longer the lens the better it looks when seen from a distance.
Can it be repaired?
Technically yes but repair time varies greatly and the quality of the repair can vary too.
What about the lens hood?
No need for a wide angle lens to use a large sized hood. A wide angle lens can be used without the hood.
Do I need a tripod to use a macro lens?
Probably not, but you do need a good quality camera. There’s a good chance the product is not quite the same quality as it used to be the last time it was used. A macro lens can be a lot like a macro film, they’re just a lot less sensitive than the film which means they don’t take as good of pictures. They also tend to take a lot less pictures than the films that they are supposed to compete with.
What about the camera that needs to be put up? What kind of tripod is needed?
If it’s just a piece of junk I don’t really need a tripod. If it’s a big heavy item, like a camera body with a lot of parts, then maybe that needs a tripod. A tripod will get the job done but if you’re having trouble finding one it might help to have a copy of the product with you as a reference.
What about any lens hood?
A very small lens hood can be useful. It can also
