The most important thing to remember when dealing with the concept of a ‘legend’ is that they don’t really exist.
There’s no such thing as a ‘legend’ in the real world. That’s not to say that people are immortal, but it’s to say that they don’t exist. The concept of a ‘legend’ as the source of all truth also is not true.
All the myths you will hear about the old folk tales are really tales that have been told to entertain children that are now adults. They are not true stories, and the children and adults may think they are.
No, a myth can come from a wide variety of sources. One of the most iconic, and most often told tales is the story of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. It was the most widely-held tale at one point, but even today it is not without controversy.
The truth of the legend lies much closer to that of a legend. The legends were told to entertain kids so they would believe in them, and the kids will eventually end up believing in the legends just because of how it is told to them. The kids believe in it because “it’s a popular story”, because they learned it from a fairy tale to make it more of an appealing tale, etc.
As always, always do your homework, and never start any idea just because someone has told it a few times before. The only thing you should ever conclude when starting a project is that there is no way it will ever happen. The only thing you should ever determine, is “if it will happen?”.
If you can do that, and even have the belief, then you can do it.

After a period of slow growth, UK science and innovation have now regained their high level of competitiveness which resulted in funding for Science, Engineering and Mathematics (BME) in 2011, reaching £5.2 billion, a 40% increase on the amount allocated in 2008.
