Disco was all dance music. The music was not disco music, it was a mixture of dance music, rock music and pop music. It was different from what it would become later in the decade.

I was famous at all times of the decade. I was a teenager and I wrote songs as young as 10, 11 years old. Then you have the old guys in the 80s and 90s, like Gary Glitter and Michael Jackson and Mariah Carey, who were all extremely famous.

How were people surprised that your songs were so well received?

Yes, and I don’t want to brag, but I was actually shocked. In a year or so and a half, my songs started to get more popular. That was really nice because people listened to them and they grew up. It was really nice. Because there were no hits that were really popular, people just played “Happy Birthday” and “I’m a Little Teapot Now” and that. And “Swing it Like It’s Your Last” and that. And then I got the “Hey Jude” song and that and my next top five! You know
