We can probably all agree that the best song to play on the guitar is “Shake of a Magpie.” With a few minor adjustments to the “The Last Time” riff and some light electric-guitar effects, it gives a little bite to the tune you really want. But the best one-two punch is “The Last Time” with a little chorus, which is a good one-two punch.
The “Shake of a Magpie” riff in the “Shake of a Magpie” is kind of a good-looking sound, but the rest of the song is pretty good, too.
We used a couple of different guitars, and it all came together really well, although there was a little bit of a problem with the vocals. I had to cut them down a little bit, so they became a little bit more sassy than they were originally intended to be.
When did you first try out the guitar effects for “The Last Time”?
It was the end of May. I was using a guitar for about two years, but I think I’ve only used a guitar for three performances, so I’m sure I’d have started to use a guitar effect if I’d had to start all over again.
We’ve been playing with the electronic effects for about two years, but in the beginning, it was all hand-held. We’d start out with a riff and then let it go, so you could hear how the song was coming together.
We never really set out to put guitar on “The Last Time.” If anything, it just started as a great little jam session. The music was very loose, and as I began recording the track, we decided that the guitar was just something that would let us get out of the studio and explore. We’ve never really put the guitar down before.
Do you think that it was easier to do that with electronic music?
We do enjoy recording electronic stuff and it usually lets you go a little harder. With live music, no, it just doesn’t get to our blood pressure as quickly. We don’t like the idea of being rushed, especially with electronics.
We’re usually playing for 10 to 15 minutes before we even begin to really play. And then we’ve got to stop because we’re exhausted and it gets very distracting. Because you get so in depth into all the details that you can’t really get back to the basics. So you play for a
