You bet! The flavor comes from the seed, so the plant cannot handle the heat.

So, you see, that saffron spice that you’ve heard about is not saffron. It’s not even saffron.

Saffron is an oil (a compound derived from the flower of a plant) that’s used in certain kinds of food products (especially candied foods, such as jellies), for skin and hair care, and for medicinal purposes.

Saffron has different oils than other spices, namely, tumeric and cumin. According to the Wikipedia:

Tumeric oil is the most common, with 1.5-2% of the world’s oil supply. It is also used in many perfumes.

Cumin oil, on the other hand, is not common (only 0.2% of the world’s oil supply). It has several important biological functions, including immune and antioxidant functions. It is used to flavour foods and beverages.

In honor of Super Bowl LII, ESPN is releasing a new film, “Super Bowl 50: 50 Years In The Making,” that will celebrate the most historic sporting event in television history.

It stars former NFL quarterback Vince Young, who will speak and provide commentary as he shares how he, along with quarterback Tom Brady and other athletes, were part of the first-ever Super Bowl broadcast. After the game ends, Young has a private hour-long interview with the producers, including NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.

The film will air Jan. 5 at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT and go through Jan. 15. ESPN will also release a new short film in the coming days of NFL personalities celebrating and reminiscing about their Super Bowl memories alongside the 50 most memorable moments in the game.
