You do not need to add water at all for saffron. If you’re using a strong saffron oil to create an ultra pure liquid, the water will only be enough. The oil will also reduce the volume after several hours.
It should take 2 days from time of rinsing, to 2 weeks by weight for the smallest saffron to grow completely.
How do I know that my saffron is ready?
I do not recommend rinsing your saffron in water to see if it is ready. Just do a rinse, and then allow it to dry out on its own.
In general, I do not recommend using a saffron brimming bucket to dry your saffron. This method, causes mold to form.
The most important thing to remember is that the seeds and roots are what you use for your saffron. So if you want to make saffron oil, the saffron seeds you are using are the ingredient, and not the brimming bucket.
You can always rinse the leaves and roots once a week.
