Military tattoos used to be called ‘Prestigious Trophies’ (PSTs) which meant that if you got it at the very top of the totem pole of your tribe… well you were certainly an authority in your tribe. You were a hero among your tribe members (it’s not the same in the US). Nowadays this is what the common ‘Prestigious Tattoo’ was for a very short time. It’s still being used on some people but it seems like a modern trend. It’s basically an acronym. I’m more excited about the ‘Nameless Tattoo.’ This type of tattoo was made on by a blacksmith, you can tell it was done by an artisans who were known locally. They are the type you see on the US military in the US and the UK. This type of tattoo had a more traditional and artistic way of making it. In the past the military had their own style, and they made their own designs and designs on the body and were proud of it. When the US was created that has changed now it’s just the standard. These kind of tattoos are still in use among military members from the US, UK, and Australia.
Is it common to find Military tattoos across the US?
There are quite a few different types of tattoos across the US. I think people look different on the street. Some people are wearing camouflage and then you have others wearing a regular military uniform. There is kind of a mix of the types of people. In my own local area I don’t see military tattoos that much but I know of people who do. There are those who have been in the military and tattoos but have also worked as a professional artist or used it as an artistic statement.
When you get a Tattoo… is it a bad tattoo to get?
A lot of people have tattoos but don’t realize how bad they look because the tattoo is just so beautiful. It’s like a painting on a canvas… you can not tell if it’s realistic or if they wanted a different angle because the quality makes it that much more important. It can affect you from an emotional and mental perspective of not how you look but rather it can make your day very different. Even my parents are a little upset if they see me with my own tattoo when I go to school because they know it takes some stress off of them, but that’s something to take into consideration. I think that is something that a lot of people don’t take into consideration.
