We often hear the claim that weight of the horse is the primary measurement in horse race statistics. This is somewhat debatable, as all measurements should include age and sex. However, weight is the principal measurement for a horse to calculate his or her age or sex. It is also possible that a horse’s strength and size are also factors in determining weight. Thus, weighing a horse and noting the age or sex of the horse are sufficient if the horse is a year or older.

For example, a 12-year-old racehorse would weigh 120 pounds, regardless of the age of the horse; since the horse’s age is determined by the age of the animal, the 12-year-old horse’s weight is the same as if he or she was a year older. Thus, the 12-year-old horse’s age and strength are the most widely reported values in horse race statistics. Unfortunately, the number has varied with race results, so this is not a definitive method.

For example, there have been many races or races where the winner of this race was over 2 years younger than the other horses and his or her weight is the same weight as horses of more than 2 years old. However, in none of these race are the weight and age of the horses within a single year, so the 11-year-old horse’s size is not a reliable measure.

What is the difference between the following measures?

Weight For Age

The most common weight measurements made are for “weight for age.” It’s simply an age measurement or a measurement of the age of an animal. These measurements include weight from the rear of the horse (not including the hooves), plus weight from the top of the horse.

For example, in a 100-meter race between two horses of similar strength, the race will use either the 100-meter length measured from the rear of the horse to the ground, or the 100-meter lengths measured from the top of the horse to a point above the ground and to the rear of the horse.

Age For Weight

In another popular measurement, horse age or “age for weight” also measures the animal’s weight (weight for age = weight for age x 100) divided by 2, which is usually measured in one year.

As with weight for age, the measurement is either measured from the rear of the horse (this would be where the horse’s height is measured in a 100-meter race) or the front.
