The long-dead dead do, sometimes. They’re usually just sitting in a coffin and pretending not to be dead, but sometimes the living can be heard whispering in their coffins. In one such case, the people are so well dead that you might even think they’re talking to each other. I’ve heard this from people with Parkinson’s disease.
And skeletons have a long and interesting history in human cultures.
Skeleton, or phallus,
Most likely to be considered a female sex symbol, the phallus was found by ancient Greeks. (Yes, it was a penis found by ancient Greeks.) The phallus was believed to control the flow of sperm, and therefore sex.
Skeleton-shaped stones
Skeleton-shaped stones have been found all over the world. One is in Italy, on an open floor of a church. Another is in Brazil, and is on top of a rock on the slopes of Mount Pinatubo. You can also find “skeleton-shaped” boulders near a lake in Australia. There’s a skeleton in Scotland. And a skeleton in Denmark, and a more conventional one in Austria. Just by looking at them, though, we can see the skeletal features. It’s clear that skeletons are not just for decoration, but an important religious icon to the ancient Greeks.

There are also other examples of stones or rocks that suggest a woman’s likeness. One is near a town in Peru called San José de la Iguala, where I photographed stone sculptures from the late 1930s. I did the same thing near Lima. I did find a small square stone on the surface of a boulder in the area.
It had been cut in seven pieces and was resting by the side of a small waterfall just inside the village. Inside, as you walk through a tunnel beneath the entrance, here are two small figures, with a bit of a mouth open wide. Inside, and around the edges, there is a large, rectangular object. Here are the figures of a woman, and the object underneath. There are other examples, but these are the biggest, and the ones that have caught my attention. I still don’t know what they are.
