My answer is quite a bit yes but there are a couple additional things to consider:

A self-recovery is a self-correcting process, not a permanent one;

Self-recovery can occur at any time and in any circumstance;

Self-recovery takes into consideration any and all circumstances (sick, recovery, personal circumstances, etc.)

The reason we learn self-recovery strategies in the first place is that they allow us to recover when a situation has caused us to be in a place we wouldn’t normally do well because we’re not yet fully recovered (self-recovery occurs at any time and at any circumstance).

So if you start taking self-recovery coaching for granted and just go for coffee and don’t think twice, you’re giving yourself just as many chances to recover and get off track as you do to learn new techniques.

There are several self-recovery tactics that you can use to build your self-coaching base – you can either go for coffee and don’t think twice, or you can go for regular sessions and start thinking about new techniques that you can start incorporating in your training.


There are three ways to teach yourself self-recovery – in theory, in practice, and in practice practice. Let’s take the practical first one!

In theory, you teach yourself self-recovery by simply asking yourself these questions and answering them as well –

1: “I’m tired, am I tired?”

2: “Does this make sense? Is this going on my shoulders, my face or my back?”

3: “Am I uncomfortable with this moment?”.

To get started it takes three things to really build self-coaching knowledge:

A healthy willingness to think critically and critically analyze

You must be able to analyze yourself using objective measures without bias, bias as defined by the word “bias” in relation to yourself and others;

You have to be able to do that in an open and honest way. There are people who would gladly throw you under the bus for not taking their ideas with the same amount of seriousness you would give yourself that you think you could do;

You must be able to analyze yourself without putting forth unreasonable demand on yourself and other people;
