How does one accomplish this sort of work? And what does it mean for the man to be in possession not just of a body of training knowledge, but a mind as well?
The body must be trained so that it reacts, reacts to what is being put into it and responds to the demands of the present, not the demands of the future when you reach for the next phase.
As an athlete you will never be able to train yourself to match the demands of another player or a machine. You don’t even know what it may want by tomorrow and there’s no way to prepare your body for that.
On the other hand, as a coach you are always trying to make sure that what you are doing is working, but you want to see the progress that you are making as quickly and clearly as possible – and your athletes to be getting the benefit of it.
What is a mindset coach?
A mindset coach is somebody who goes in to your gym at the beginning of their training session to give you the information that you need to be successful.
If you want to understand what a trainer or trainer’s assistant did today, simply ask him how many sets you did over the previous two weeks. If you ask him how many reps you did on the squats today, he will answer that the best technique is to squat in the front of the rack – no pulling off the floor – no rack pulls.
And once you understand what the trainer means, he will show you what movements you should be doing. They look like the ones below:
It could happen that you do a few sets, but they don’t look like the ones on the picture above. It could also happen that you did enough sets, but not all sets look the way you think they should – in which case you have seen “Awareness” training first hand.
In essence, a mindset coach can help you understand what is going on in your body and in your mind at the moment – and help you to know what is going right and not so right, what is working and what is not.
