Borussia Dortmund have revealed how they have been able to convince their striker Robert Lewandowski to stay at the Westfalenstadion after a ‘long-running battle’ with Bayern Munich.
Lewandowski has scored eight goals in the Bundesliga this season as he is in the form of his life, and despite losing his place to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Lewandowski will not want to give up the place at the expense of his future.
After seeing Borussia Dortmund clinch a 4-1 win at VfL Wolfsburg on Tuesday, the striker told Bild: ‘My representatives have been in touch with Thomas Tuchel – I have asked for his phone number.

‘The talk is that Tuchel would like to get him back here before August 1. In all likelihood, I don’t have a choice.’
Lewandowski, who was signed from Bayern Munich as a 19-year-old during his debut campaign, returned to Dortmund a year later after winning the treble with the Bavarians and was immediately taken on by Tuchel.
The pair have met on several occasions, including at the 2016 European Championship following the Dortmund side’s run to the final, with the Polish international revealing: ‘I have not spoken to Thomas Tuchel since. He is a great coach. I always liked him, I enjoyed his games at Bayern.’
The 27-year-old has scored seven goals in the Bundesliga this season, as Dortmund have won nine, and is relishing the prospect of extending his stay at the Westfalenstadion.
Kleiner Rantzen CEO Jens Lehmann, who is known to be a big supporter of Lewandowski, has also made it clear that the striker will not be moving away from the club anytime soon.
‘Lewandowski will keep playing. He is a special player,’ he told Bild.
‘And he is still young enough to take advantage. We have done our best to convince him.
