No, the pole in a pole dance class is not a weight limit. In pole dancing classes at the Academy of Dance, pole dancers are encouraged to put as much weight on their hands as they like, but it is not a weight limit.
Do I have to be able to use a pole during pole dancing classes?
Yes, you do not have to be able to use a pole in a pole dancers class or at dance events. All that is required is that you stay with your feet in line with your hip or your hips. It is your choice as to how to move to make yourself stand up high on your feet and not fall into the bottom of your mat when you put your foot down into your mat.
I’m a pole dancer but am not able to perform. Are my friends and family supportive of these dances?
I am happy to hear that you are comfortable, especially with pole dancing as you should be! We understand that in a pole dancing class, you will have a hard time standing up and dancing. We have a variety of postures and dances that you can explore. We think that the best dancers have fun.
What if I am injured?
If you cannot perform because of an injury, you will be sent home. You will not be forced to miss the class. You will also get access to a therapist if your injury is not completely healed.
I would like to attend a pole dance class but don’t know where to get one. Is there an Academy of Dance downtown?
We do have a few clubs at the Academy, but most of them are very close by. Contact them for an invitation at info@academicship.org so we can send you one in advance. If you want to take your dancing to a level that could be considered pole dancing, an Academy of Dance pole dance class has you covered with some great dance poses and techniques that will allow you to step right in and move in to pole dancing.
