I guess I just really like the people around me; I don’t want to spend all my time in my studio. When I’m playing live, I need to have someone to play the whole guitar with me. It’s easier to play when I can look at music in a different form than when I’m in my room.
Do you have a favorite studio in your hometown?
I’m very happy with the one I’m living in right now: the Lotta Studio, in Malibu. I still have a lot of music. I have another studio that I’m looking forward to, too, but I want to make sure it’s not like the old studio. In the old studio in my house, we used to make music that nobody would have heard. I wanted to make a nice place to put a guitar and play, with a nice sound. A really nice studio would have a great sound, a good sound for beginners and advanced players, and also be a place to practice.
Do you have a favorite instrument?
I like the acoustic guitars and the acoustic bass. I like the electric guitars and the electric bass.
Have you ever been on a date?
I’ve been on a lot of dates — I’m a very busy guy. My most common day-to-day schedule is just traveling around. I’m a lot more productive on a day-to-day basis than I used be. I’ll write my songs, I’ll do a job, my favorite part of the day for me is getting down to the studio—or in this case, to Malibu, for the guitar work, then I’ll go to the studio for a few hours, work on my guitar, then go back to the hotel and come back the next day to finish the rest of my day.
Can you tell me about your favorite band?
The only people I’ve been on an date with, or anything like that, have been the bands on this tour, like the Backstreet Boys, with T.I. and a bunch of others. I like Justin Timberlake and his music, and he’s really good. I like to listen to a couple other stuff as well.
Who in your band are your dream musicians?
I like playing with a lot of different artists. It depends on the mood and if I like their voice or not. In my head, I try to draw the line at any one person for me. In my
